Boyce, Thomas Repeat as Soccer Players of Year

Jason Boyce, a Washington forward from Corona del Mar High, and Cal State Fullerton’s Sheldon Thomas have repeated as division players of the year in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Boyce, a senior who has led Huskies to a 15-2-2 record with 15 goals and 32 points, was selected the Mountain Division player of the year for the second consecutive season, as was Thomas in the Pacific Division. Thomas, a senior forward from Trinidad, led the Titans with 27 points in 1997.
Among other players named to the all-MPSF team were UCLA’s Seth George (Santa Margarita High), Kevin Coye (Ocean View) and Josh Keller (Santa Margarita), and Cal State Fullerton’s Charlie Lynch.

Bill Mulligan, Jeff Campbell, Buffy Rabbitt and Jerry Wisz will be inducted into the UCI Hall of Fame on Feb. 21 when the Anteaters play Pacific.
Mulligan was 163-156 and reached the NIT twice in 11 seasons as men’s basketball coach.
Campbell, a graduate of University High, was an All-American water polo player in 1982 and ’83 and was player of the year in 1985.
Rabbitt was a three-time All-American in cross-country and a two-time selection in track. She attended Newport Harbor High.
Wisz was an All-American golfer in 1974 and ’75. He helped the Anteaters win the NCAA Division II title in 1975.

Jeff Russ was named Huntington Beach girls’ water polo coach, Athletic Director Dave Van Hoorebeke said.
Russ is also coach of the boys’ water polo team.
