NEW YORK — A neighborhood tradition turned deadly when a gunman opened fire on football players, killing two men and wounding three.
The victims, all men in their 20s, were playing football in a courtyard in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon when several men approached and one began shooting, police said.
Witnesses, who said the holiday game was a decades-old tradition in the neighborhood, said more than a dozen shots were fired before the assailants fled.
