Ambulance Theft a Repeat Achievement

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Four years after a man was arrested for stealing an ambulance outside a hospital emergency room, authorities say he’s done it again.
Edward Babcock, 34, was arrested Thursday and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Authorities say he took a running ambulance from outside Oswego Hospital’s emergency room after two medical technicians took a patient inside.
Police stopped Babcock in the stolen ambulance. Deputy Fire Chief Richard Ackerman said he has no idea why Babcock took the vehicle.
Babcock was arrested May 12, 1993, after leading deputies on a five-mile chase. He had taken an ambulance also parked outside Oswego Hospital.
