Freeway Connector Closed for Work Today
Motorists traveling west on the Riverside Freeway today to the northbound Santa Ana Freeway may want to rethink their plans.
The connector to the northbound Santa Ana Freeway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to workers installing new drainage pipes.
A suggested detour for motorists is to exit at Beach Boulevard, turn right and continue to the onramp to the freeway.
The work is part of the $1.1-billion I-5 North Improvement Project, which began last December and is expected to be completed by 2000. Improvements include new car-pool lanes, and the Santa Ana/Riverside Freeway interchange will be reconfigured.
Measure M money along with federal, state, county and local contributions is paying for the project, a partnership between Caltrans and Orange County Transportation Authority.
