Gore Urges Greater Push for Clean Water

Vice President Al Gore says the Clean Water Act has had great successes in its quarter-century, but not enough. He ordered federal agencies to quickly come up with a plan to flush the poisons and pollutants from the nation’s waterways. Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the act’s 25th anniversary, Gore told the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Agriculture to present him the plan in 90 days. “For all our success, there are still dangerous runoffs of toxins and pollutants in our streams,” Gore said. “We need to recommit ourselves to the vision of the Clean Water Act--and we need new action to move it forward.”
