Soka University to Offer Environmental Workshop

To help teach children appreciation of animals and the environment, Soka University is sponsoring a free sheepherding workshop Nov. 8 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
The workshop will be coordinated by the San Fernando Herding Assn., which began sponsoring such events in 1993, said Soka spokeswoman Earlyn Moshe.
Younger children will herd a flock of ducks, while older children, working with sheepherding dogs, will herd sheep, she said.
“We want the kids to experience what it’s like to herd sheep in real life,” she said. “It’ll give them a good feel for working with the environment.”
The university will erect fences to keep the sheep from escaping, she said.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling (818) 878-3741.
