Pinkerton on School Vouchers
There he goes again--James Pinkerton touting school vouchers (Column Right, Oct. 16). As a recipient of 12 years of Catholic education paid for by my parents and me with no government help, I fully support private education and want it to stay private.
Evidently, Pinkerton and other voucher freaks don’t understand that vouchers will turn private schools receiving them into semi-public schools. What would then happen if a zealot teaches his religion in a history class? What if a minority student is denied entrance to a vouchered school of his/her choice? Do I smell lawsuit here? And what about reports and other paperwork required by government? I recall my aerospace days and the reams of paper we generated to get and keep government funds flowing.
I agree with Pinkerton that super-rich folks like John Walton are doing right by donating scholarships to the needy for private schooling. As I said, let’s keep private schools private.
