Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach) has received the Keeper of the Flame Award, an honor previously held by Ronald Reagan, Caspar Weinberger, Newt Gingrich and Steve Forbes.
The award is given annually by the Center for Security Policy, a Washington-based think tank that focuses on global security issues. Cox received the award in a ceremony Tuesday in Washington.
The award was introduced in 1990 by the center to bestow recognition on individuals who devote their public careers to “the propagation of democracy and the respect for individual rights throughout the world.”
The center said the award is meant both to acknowledge the contributions of its recipients and to remind others who share their commitment to freedom and economic opportunity.
