Blighted Oil Refinery Site to Become Industrial Park

Santa Fe Springs will provide $8 million in redevelopment funds to help convert a closed oil refinery into a 265-acre industrial park.
“The public funding will help the evolution from blighted closed refinery to a contemporary business park,” said Robert Orpin, the city’s director of planning and development.
The city decided to provide the money because the site, on Imperial Highway and bisected by Carmenita Road, requires extensive environmental cleanup. The cost of that cleanup would block private development, said Orpin.
