A College Crush
Students and faculty in Fresno State’s oenology program on Aug. 26 crushed French Colombard grapes for the school’s first commercial wine vintage. Fresno State is the nation’s only university with a commercial winemaking license.
The students expect to bottle about 500 cases of estate white wine, which should be available for sale at the university-farm market and in selected area stores in mid-December for $12.50 a bottle or $150 for a 12-bottle case. The first vintage will be named for Vincent Petrucci, professor emeritus and former director of the university’s viticulture and oenology research center.
