Cardinal Mahony to Say Mass for Mother Teresa

Cardinal Roger Mahony will celebrate a memorial Mass for Mother Teresa tonight at St. Vincent’s Church, where a capacity crowd is expected to turn out to honor the “Saint of the Gutters” who died Friday in Calcutta.
“The thing that stands out in my mind is how Mother Teresa would refer to serving Jesus in the most distressing disguise, and that disguise was usually the poorest of the poor, the sick and the dying, the rejected and the abandoned,” said Father Gregory Coiro of the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
“She was a constant reminder of the 25th chapter of Matthew where Jesus says, ‘Whatever you did this to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me.’ She really brought that to life. She preached it and she lived it. She not only talked the talk, she walked the walk.”
The church is at 621 W. Adams Blvd. at Figueroa Street.
