A $1-million donation from the George Burns Trust will go to scholarships and an endowment fund for the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, school officials announced Friday.
Gilbert Cates, dean of the school, said the gift will fund the George Burns and Gracie Allen Scholarships / Fellowships in Comedy and the George Burns Endowment Fund, to be used at the administration’s discretion.
In recognition of the gift, a campus sound stage will be named the George Burns Sound Stage, said Cates, who directed Burns in “Oh, God! Book II” in 1980.
The comedy scholarships will be awarded to students demonstrating talent in comedy.
