Boxer Honored for Bolsa Chica Support

The Bolsa Chica Land Trust Monday presented Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) with an award for supporting efforts to preserve the Bolsa Chica ecosystem and save it from development.
“Every coastal commissioner should visit this area before he or she votes to permit development,” Boxer said.
The saltwater marsh provides a crucial habitat for birds and aquatic life. The Land Trust acquired the wetlands to prevent development after a contentious debate. The trust is now trying to buy the nearby mesa. Boxer’s visit provided a boost to volunteers and supporters, said Nancy Donaven, president of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. “It was extremely important to have her here.”
In a tree planting ceremony, Boxer helped kick off the Bolsa Chica Stewards fall planting and restoration program.
