City Will Help Build Electric-Car Charging Sites

Electric car owners will be able to get a quick jolt when public charging stations are built at malls, business, entertainment centers, city halls, libraries and beaches.
The council this week voted 4-1 to accept $100,000 from the Orange County Transportation Authority to help build a network of 25 charging stations across the county. Councilman Bob Zemel opposed the proposal.
Supporters said the stations will encourage more people to drive emission-free electric cars to reduce air pollution.
Anita Mangels, with Californians Against Hidden Taxes, spoke against the plan, saying OCTA money could be better used to alleviate traffic congestion.
Anaheim will take the lead and work with seven public agencies and eight private organizations participating in the network. Additional federal and private funds are expected to cover the $500,000 program.
