Edourd de Merlier, who is suffering from cancer, recently donated $30,000 in books and cash to Cypress College.
The retired Long Beach businessman, a Cypress graduate, donated a collection of more than 1,000 volumes of photography and money for a scholarship.
“This will give the library the best pictorial overview of photographic history that I’m aware of in the area,” Cypress photography instructor Jerry Burchfield said. “They’re almost all first editions. It’s a very special collection.”
De Merlier has worked as a substitute teacher in the Paramount Unified School District. He attended classes at Cypress several years ago.
