Moorpark Teen Wins Bluegrass Competitions

Forbes Conrad, 13, of Moorpark, took home top honors in three bluegrass instrumental categories at the 1998 Americana Festival in Crestline, Calif.

Forbes, accompanied by his father, Bernie Conrad, won in the banjo, fiddle and traditional fiddle competitions, earning a $600 purse. The festival was held Aug. 1.

Eagle Scout Awarded $8,000 Scholarship

* Adam Sepulveda, a recent graduate of St. Bonaventure High School, earned a top National Eagle Scout Assn. college scholarship. Of the more than 2,300 applicants, Sepulveda was one of only four awarded the $8,000 scholarships.

Sepulveda will attend Dartmouth College in September and will focus his studies on environmental science and biology. He began his Scouting career in 1991 with Troop 103 in Ventura and earned Eagle Scout rank in 1996.

Lions Recognize Oxnard Physician for Service

* Ray Lopez has been named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation in recognition of “his commitment to serving the world community.” Lopez, an Oxnard physician, is a member of the Oxnard Noontimers.

The fellowship is the foundation’s highest honor and recognizes a commitment to humanitarian service.

County Museum Receives $3,250 in Grants

* The Ventura County Museum of History and Art received a $2,000 grant from the Amgen Foundation, and a $1,250 grant from Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co.
