* The Gold Coast Small Business Development Center in Ventura will hold a “Home-Based Business Support Group” meeting from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. The meeting is designed for individuals who have or want to start a home-based business. Free, but seating is limited. The center is at 5700 Ralston St., Suite 310. * The State of California Employment Development Department will host a free employment tax seminar from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. today at the Ventura Taxpayer Service Center, 4820 McGrath St., Suite 250. There will be sessions on the difference between employees and independent contractors, state payroll reporting requirements and federal payroll reporting requirements. Seating is limited.
