Re “Asian Governments Risk Ruin to Prop Up Economies,” Aug. 25: Countries in Asia which are propping up their stock markets by buying securities are rightly criticized--stock market intervention risks squandering national savings, health and welfare funds and private retirement money, experts say. Is this not the same road that we would travel were Social Security funds invested in the stock market? Certainly a down market would call for similar intervention by our government to help retirees.
