Firm Picked to Help Recruit Schools Chief

The Laguna Beach Unified School District has picked Leadership Associates, an executive search firm for hiring school superintendents, to assist in finding a new top official to run the 2,500-student district.
The firm, based in San Marcos, will be paid $16,950 by the school board to seek out qualified candidates throughout California, including those who may not be job-hunting, said Kathryn A. Turner, the board president. The board will interview the finalists and select the new schools chief.
The contract with Leadership Associates is expected to be approved at the board’s Feb. 23 meeting.
The new superintendent will replace Reed Montgomery, who was fired last week after a two-month absence for medical reasons he declined to disclose. Montgomery has said he plans to sue the district for as much as $300,000 in lost salary and benefits.
