Was Cheap Shot Really Necessary?

I was smiling most of the way through Carrie St. Michel’s column about a fake Christmas tree in “Absurdum” on Dec. 17. Then she stated that a real tree, when it got old, would “get all dried out and dead-looking to the point where it easily could be mistaken for Joan Collins.”
What a terribly mean-spirited thing to say. Can’t we all try to be a little kinder to each other for at least a few weeks a year?
