Events Planned to Remember King

Several events will be held this weekend to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
The slain civil rights activist will be remembered with jazz, gospel and blues performances Saturday and Sunday at Ventura Harbor Village.

A blues concert is scheduled Sunday at the Oxnard Hilton. Tickets are $19 in advance and $22 at the door, and information is available by calling 497-0866.
On Monday, the day of the national holiday commemorating King, a local observance is scheduled to culminate with an outdoor march and poetry reading in Oxnard.
The march is scheduled to begin with an 8 a.m. prayer at Plaza Park and end at 5th and C streets.
At 9 a.m., a ceremony featuring poet Fannie Tatum Hawkins takes place at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $3, and information is available at 385-8147.
