Candidates Sought for Vacant School Board Post
- Share via
The El Segundo Unified School District board voted Monday to accept applications to fill the school board seat vacated by a member who is moving out of the area.
Margaret Echevarria unexpectedly resigned from the board last week after she announced that she and her family were moving to Brentwood. Echevarria was elected to the board in November 1995 and had two years remaining in her term.
The school board could have chosen to hold a special election to fill the seat. But a special election would have cost the district an estimated $30,000, Supt. Bill Watkins said.
The candidate who is selected to fill the vacancy will be expected to serve in the position until the next school board election November 1999.
Applications for the position will be available Friday and must be submitted to the superintendent’s office by Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.
