Rock ‘n’ Roll Can’t Just Be Written Off

Although I have a great deal of respect for Steve Allen, I must disagree with his assessment of Woodstock (“The Perennial Steve Allen,” Jan. 9).
I was not present at that event, and I don’t necessarily condone many of the activities that occurred there. The music, however, is a different story. Some of the performances given at that festival were seminal for many of our generation.
Music that is different is not always enjoyed by everyone but to dismiss the music of any generation as “inferior” is unfortunate at best and a display of arrogance at its worst.
