A woman was acquitted of murder in a new trial after serving nine years of a life sentence for the shooting death of her husband. She had maintained that he killed himself. Susie Mowbray gasped as the judge read the verdict. Several people in the packed courtroom applauded. Prosecutors said Mowbray, 49, shot her husband, Cadillac dealer Bill Mowbray, in 1987 as he slept. She was accused of killing him to gain $1.8 million in insurance money. She insisted that he killed himself because of depression and financial problems at his dealership. The debate rested largely on the testimony of experts who looked at the pattern of blood spatters.
