Planned Fire That Went Wild Is 90% Contained

JULIAN, Calif. — A prescribed fire that blazed out of bounds and had consumed about 2,100 acres was 90% contained Friday, officials said.
The California Department of Forestry hoped to have the fire under full control by Saturday afternoon, a spokeswoman said.
Officials set the blaze Wednesday to clear brush that could fuel wildfires later. It quickly jumped out of Bureau of Land Management fire lines about five miles northeast of Julian, near San Diego. The blaze was burning away from town, and no structures were threatened.
Three firefighters reported minor injuries. The fire is estimated to have consumed more than $750,000 in firefighting funds.
