Honors Keep Coming for David Holmquist

David C. Holmquist, Biola University’s athletic director, has been named Cypress College’s Alumnus of the Year.
Holmquist, 47, was the college’s student body president in the 1970-71 academic year. While a student, he received the Service Above Scholarship award and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.
At 24, after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Biola, he became one of the youngest head basketball coaches in the history of the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics when he was named to the position at Fresno Pacific College. In 1978, he returned to Biola as a basketball coach, professor and athletic director.
Holmquist, of La Habra, has compiled a record of 503 wins versus 180 losses in his 21-year coaching career.
He has master’s degrees in physical education, marriage and child counseling, European history and theology, and a doctoral degree in physical education.
His accolades include Coach of the Year honors from numerous organizations.
“We are very pleased to be honoring a man of David’s stature,” Cypress College President Christine Johnson said.
