Center to Sponsor Bicycle Safety Day

The Midtown Resource Center, in conjunction with the Ventura Police Department and several local businesses, will host Bicycle Helmet Safety Day this week.
Safety experts will inspect bicycles, adjust helmets and offer accident prevention tips from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the center, 1700 E. Thompson Blvd.
John Avery, owner of Open Air Bicycles and an event volunteer, said many riders wear helmets incorrectly.
“At another bicycle safety rodeo recently, of all the children that showed up, maybe four helmets were adjusted properly, and five more were satisfactory. The rest were horribly misadjusted, and that’s where the problem lies,” he said.
For more information, call the resource center at 667-2922.
