A high-speed chase that began in Sunset Beach on Saturday morning ended in a crash that injured the driver, whom police booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle.
About 10 a.m., Seal Beach police spotted a gold 1995 Lexus that had been reported stolen in Laguna Beach in April, Sgt. Rick Ransdell said.
Police tried without success to stop the car, which was being driven by Richard White, 35, of Newport Beach, and also contained a passenger.
The chase reached speeds of 100 mph and cut through parts of Huntington Beach, where the passenger jumped out of the car. It ended in Fountain Valley, where the car crashed into a light pole near Edinger and Warner avenues.
White was treated for minor injuries and released from Columbia Huntington Beach Hospital and Medical Center. Police then booked him on suspicion of possessing stolen property as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, Ransdell said.
The passenger was not arrested. “It seemed as though the passenger didn’t have anything to do with the car theft,” Ransdell said.
