The Detwiler Foundation has donated 90 computers and 17 printers to 17 Los Angeles County schools.
Some of the equipment was assembled at the California State Prison in Lancaster from donated parts and other components are surplus items from Northrop Grumman Corp., a defense electronics company based in Century City, said foundation President John Detwiler.
Since 1991, the foundation has donated more than 42,000 computers to California schools, he said.
“There’s really no opportunity without access to technology,” said Detwiler, who pointed out that California ranks near the bottom nationally in the ratio of students per computer.
