Cargo Operations Resume After Strike

Normal cargo operations resumed Tuesday at a picket-free Port of Hueneme, the day after a Teamsters strike shut the port entirely.

“There has been a temporary resolution to the situation that’s allowing all cargo to flow normally,” said port spokesman Kam Quarles. “Our understanding is they are going to continue to negotiate for the next few weeks and during that time there will be no pickets anywhere.”

The Teamsters set up picket lines at the port after negotiations over a new labor contract for two union members employed by a forklift company broke down. Unionized longshoremen honored the picket line, leaving three cargo-laden ships stranded at the dock.
