Pepperdine Downs Northridge Again

David Sardinha hit a home run and a double, and drove in three runs in Pepperdine’s 8-4 baseball victory over Cal State Northridge on Saturday at Northridge.
Junior right-hander Andy Shibilo (3-1) pitched a five-hitter and struck out 14 for Pepperdine (7-9-1), which built a 6-1 lead after three innings.
Jeff Sugden had three hits, and Chris Cosbey had two hits and two RBIs for the Waves, who beat the Matadors, 4-3, on Friday.
Chris MacMillan had two hits, including his third home run for Northridge (11-11).
Pierce 4-1, Canyons 0-3--Nick Katzenstein scored on a double by Albert Palma in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie, and the Cougars salvaged a split in a Western State Conference South Division doubleheader at Pierce.
Mike Preski (1-0) pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-hit relief, and Brian Bishop pitched a hitless ninth to earn his fifth save for Canyons (10-2, 2-1).
Barry Zito (2-0) pitched a two-hitter in the opener, striking out 10 for Pierce (5-6, 1-1).
Oxnard 7, Santa Barbara 0--Tom Manos (3-1) allowed three hits over eight innings, striking out five for the Condors (8-4, 1-1) in a WSC game at Oxnard.
MEN’S TRACK
Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships--Freshman Clinte Motley of Cal State Northridge won the triple jump and placed fifth in the 55-meter high hurdles to help the Matadors place second behind defending champion Idaho State at Montana State.
Motley set a school indoor record of 50-5 1/4 in the triple jump after clearing a school-record 7-1 to win the high jump Friday. He was selected field event athlete of the meet.
Junior Jeff Beam placed second in the pole vault at 17-0 3/4 and junior Billy Bush was second in the shotput at 59-2 for Northridge.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships--Sophomores Christina Tolson and Brandi Prieto and freshman Regean Hill of Cal State Northridge helped the Matadors tie Montana State for third in the meet at Montana State.
Tolson won the 20-pound weight throw at 59-8 1/2 and Prieto bounded a school indoor record 41-5 1/4 to take the triple jump.
Hill won the 55 meters in 7.08.
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 9-1, Redlands 1-0--Melissa Eichenberger and Kathy Proffitt combined on a two-hitter in the second game to give the Regals a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep at Cal Lutheran.
Eichenberger (1-1) allowed two hits over four innings and Proffitt pitched three perfect innings.
Emily Marquard singled home the only run in the first inning.
Mandi Comer and Kristine Everly each had a double and a single and drove in two runs for the Regals (3-7, 3-1) in the opener.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 6, Santa Clara 1--Mashite Sakamoto scored points at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Waves (11-2) at Pepperdine.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 9, UC Irvine 0--Zsofia Csapo defeated Darian Chappell at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5, at Pepperdine (8-4).
