School Bond Issue

* I have been a teacher at Newbury Park High School for 30 years. When I started in 1969, I was fortunate to be able to teach at a new school and buy a relatively new house. I still live in the same house but over the years have invested in additions and remodelings in order to keep it in decent, livable shape.
Unlike my home, Newbury Park High shows its age. The bathrooms have never been remodeled or even maintained at the level they were when new. The student desks are also 30 years old and falling apart. I shudder to think that my house would look the same way the school does if my furniture had never been replaced or my bathrooms remodeled.
The worst part is at the beginning of the year when we have to try to pass on learning in a 95-plus degree environment. Its difficult enough for 36 seniors to learn about economics without the extra thrill of a stuffy, overheated classroom. Yes, some of it may be the teacher’s hot air, but I would be eternally grateful to spend my final couple of years in a well-ventilated, air-conditioned classroom.
Please vote for Measure V on April 14.
