An inability to save money is Americans’ chief financial concern, according to a 1997 survey by Cigna Group Insurance. Some survey highlights:
* About 26% of the survey’s 1,003 respondents said a chronic inability to save money is their biggest financial worry.
* About 15% ranked the possibility of losing their jobs as their second-largest financial concern.
* The third-biggest financial worry was losing income because of injury or illness; about 13% of respondents cited this issue.
* Financial concerns vary by region. The inability to save money worries respondents more in the West, where about 33% cited that issue.
