Sales-Tax Sharing Will Be Discussed
Spreading the wealth will be the topic of discussion Saturday as city and state officials debate the pros and cons of cities sharing sales tax revenues as a way to curb the development of agricultural land and open spaces.
Beginning with a coffee at 9:30 a.m. at Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive, representatives from the Local Agency Formation Commission and the city of Camarillo will discuss the issue and address audience questions.
The two-hour debate, open to the public free of charge, will formally begin at 10 a.m.
The issue of sharing tax revenues has been heralded by some as a way to save Ventura County’s agricultural land while others have criticized it for diminishing local authority, civic identity and the democratic rights of residents.
