Twenty-five Los Angeles teachers, including eight who work in the San Fernando Valley, have been certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, created in 1987 to push education reforms, Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan said Monday.
The group were among 60 who voluntarily applied for certification. Riordan provided each teacher with $500 to help defray the $2,000 application fee.
