SEASON AT A GLANCE: Spiker has won eight of 11 races, including four in a row entering the Division I race of the state championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Spiker won the Division I race of the Southern Section championships at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday. His time of 15:01 over the three-mile course improved his best at Mt. SAC by 23 seconds, made him Ventura High’s first individual section champion and dealt senior Alfonso Leon of Santa Ana his first loss of the season.
GIRLS
Courtney Guerra
SCHOOL: Royal
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Volleyball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: The 5-foot-11 outside hitter has supplied the offensive firepower for Royal, which won its first Southern Section title since 1989. Guerra, who has set the school single-season record with 503 kills, has committed to California.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Guerra had 26 kills and 27 digs in the Highlanders’ four-game victory over Huntington Beach Marina in the Division I-A championship match. In a semifinal victory over Buena, Guerra had 21 kills and 18 digs.
