Abraham Enters Not-Guilty Plea

Michael Abraham, former women’s basketball coach at Cal State Northridge, entered a plea of not guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in federal court in Omaha, Neb., on Monday. A trial date of March 1, 1999, was set.

Abraham was arrested Oct. 27 in the Northridge gymnasium and subsequently resigned as coach. Federal authorities did not seek to detain Abraham and he returned to Portland, Ore., where he is staying with his family.

ADMINISTRATION

Impending hire: Stan Jankovich, the athletic director at Miami from 1983-90, has been offered the position of interim athletic director at Cal State Northridge, sources said.

If he accepts, Jankovich, 63, would serve in the position until a permanent replacement is found for Paul Bubb, who resigned under pressure Nov. 3. Bobby Braswell, the Northridge men’s basketball coach, has served as administrator in charge of athletics since Bubb’s resignation.

SWIMMING

Signing: Kristine Ross, a senior at Chaminade High, has signed a letter of intent with Rutgers.

VOLLEYBALL

Awards: Calabasas outside hitter Brooke Niles was selected Frontier League player of the year.

Gaby Gallardo of Poly and Kassy Jimenez of Sylmar were East Valley League co-players of the year.
