Hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officers fanned out around an apartment complex in Clermont, Fla., in search of a 6-year-old girl whose father says she vanished while playing outside. Kayla McKean went out to play about 9:30 a.m. Thursday and couldn’t be found an hour later, said her father, Ricky Adams. He reported her missing shortly after noon. “They should have called us earlier,” said Norris Fails, a Clermont police officer who responded to the initial call. “The more I think about it, the more I think we would have found her by now.” Bloodhounds tracked the girl’s steps across a nearby grassy field to a parking lot, where the dogs lost her scent, Lake County sheriff’s Capt. Mark Palmer said.
