Yeltsin Vows to Find Dagestan Bombers

President Boris N. Yeltsin branded a bomb blast that killed at least 16 people in the southern region of Dagestan a challenge to all of Russia and vowed to hunt down the perpetrators. Meanwhile, in Russia’s Arctic North, five sailors from Dagestan, worried about relatives back home, were overpowered by special forces after they took 48 people, including dozens of children, hostage to try to force authorities to fly them home. The five had earlier killed a fellow sailor at a nuclear base they were guarding.
