SUN VALLEY — Three people died and a 6-month-old boy was critically injured when their car hit a tree Thursday night, firefighters said.
The female driver and two male passengers were killed on impact, said Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. The infant was strapped into a child’s seat and was lifted out of the wreckage by bystanders.
The baby was rushed by ambulance to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles where he underwent surgery.
“The others were trapped in the horrendously mangled wreckage,” Humphrey said. “Their injuries were clearly incompatible with life.”
The car, a late model compact Ford sedan, struck a tree at 8:30 p.m. in the 8100 block of Glenoaks Boulevard at an unknown rate of speed, Humphrey said.
The victims’ identities and relationship to each other were not immediately known.
