Jury Rejects Palimony Claim Against Actor

LOS ANGELES — A Superior Court jury Tuesday rejected an $881,000 palimony claim by a woman who said that actor Jack Klugman had promised to care for her for the rest of her life.
Barbara Neugass, 57, contended that the 77-year-old former star of television’s “Quincy” and “The Odd Couple” had told her numerous times over an 18-year relationship, which ended in 1992, that she would never want for financial support.
But Klugman said he never made such a promise, and the jury agreed with him.
“To me, it was just a relationship, a normal relationship,” juror Gwendolyn Price said after the verdict. “He was just a nice person, and treated her very well. . . . There should have been something in writing. . . . The evidence just wasn’t there.”
