The community college baseball season starts today with seven games in Orange County and two other teams on the road.
Saddleback, which lost in the state final last season to Sacramento, Golden West and Orange Coast are scheduled to host games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Santa Ana also hosts a 2 p.m. game. Cypress, the preseason favorite to win the Orange Empire Conference, is at the College of the Desert tournament in the Palm Springs area and Fullerton is playing in a tournament in Phoenix.
The Cypress game will mark the collegiate debut of Gerald Laird, two-time Times Orange County player of the year while at La Quinta High.
