South County Safe Rides received a $2,000 community service grant from the city last week to continue operating its toll-free hotline. The program, operated by teenagers, provides free, confidential rides home for teenagers on Friday and Saturday nights. Teens should call (800) 273-RIDE if they or their friends have been drinking and need a ride home. The program has 316 student volunteers and provided 431 rides last year.
