Toll Road Effort

Your Dec. 12 article “More Doubts Than Sprouts” focused on a small component of an extensive, ongoing environmental mitigation program that has been developed to balance construction of Orange County’s public toll road system with the natural environment.
Part of the program includes regular visits to the Transportation Corridor Agencies’ mitigation sites by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as other resource agencies.
After the visits, the resource agencies make comments on the progress of the program.
It is terribly complicated to transplant rare plants, but we at TCA are committed to the effort and excited about learning how to make it successful. TCA’s $150-million environmental program is extensive, and a case study on how to balance improving transportation systems in a sensitive environment.
