Ben Esplin
Irvine Valley, Sophomore
Basketball
Esplin, who at 6 feet 6, plays at the post at times for Irvine Valley, but he is also a strong outside shooter. He scored 26 points in Irvine Valley’s 70-66 victory over Golden West and added 17, including six in a row, to break a 53-53 tie as the Lasers went on to beat Cypress, 77-61. Esplin is averaging 17 points.

* Fullerton, freshman. He scored 38 points as the Hornets won twice.
Antares Vice
Cypress, Freshman
Basketball
Vice, from a 6-foot center from Bellflower High, helped Cypress open Orange Empire Conference play with a 76-72 upset of host Fullerton. She scored a season-high 24 points, got 16 rebounds and added seven blocked shots against the Hornets. Vice is averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers.

Stephanie Patten
* Santa Ana, freshman. She scored 32 points in a pair of Don victories.
