Taylor Dent of Newport Beach has been given a wild-card into the main draw of the Mercedes Benz Cup tennis tournament, which begins July 26 at UCLA. Dent joins a field that includes Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, and Michael Chang. Dent, ranked 305, will play Chang tonight in the second round of the $50,000 Safeway Challenger in Aptos. Kevin Kim, a former Sunny Hills High who is ranked 332, was beaten Wednesday in the second round of the Aptos Challenger 132nd-ranked Anthony Dupuis of France, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Dan Bohannon of Orange and his brother Dave, the top-seeded doubles team in the 50-and-over division, defeated Jeff Thomas and John Curtin, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round at the USTA’s Hardcourt Tennis Tournament at Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.
