Imall Inc. reported a loss from continuing operations of $5.37 million, or 65 cents a share, for its fiscal fourth quarter, including a one-time charge of $800,000 related to the write-off of deposits paid to Animalhouse.com, as well as substantial start-up and marketing costs to launch a new shopping portal. The Santa Monica-based company said its net loss was $5.44 million, or 67 cents, compared with $2 million, or 28 cents, a year ago. In the year-ago quarter, Imall posted a loss from continuing operations of $548,284, or 9 cents. Revenue from continuing operations jumped 243% to $753,637.

Hot Topic Inc. said its net income rose 17% to $3.87 million, or 79 cents a diluted share, in its fiscal fourth quarter, as the Pomona-based retailer’s sales jumped 36% to $36.56 million. Sales at stores open at least a year were down 5.9%, as previously reported. Chief Executive Orv Madden noted that the sales results compare with a strong performance a year ago from “South Park” licensed merchandise.
