Home Runs Carry Glendale to Title

Ryan Noll’s fifth-inning, two-run home run broke a 4-4 tie and helped host Glendale College defeat Pierce, 8-5, on Thursday to clinch its second consecutive Western State Conference Southern Division baseball title.
John Campanella hit a two-run home run, his eighth, for Glendale (22-21, 14-9 in WSC play) in the fourth inning to tie the score, 4-4.
Covelli Crisp’s run-scoring single in the fifth inning pulled Pierce (24-18, 11-12) within 6-5.
Mike Bench hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, his first this season, to secure the victory.
Gerald De La Pena (6-1) went the distance for Glendale, allowing 10 hits and striking out seven. He threw 158 pitches.
Bakersfield 3, Canyons 2--Ryan McKnight had two hits for Canyons (17-27, 10-14), but the host Renegades (23-20, 11-12) capitalized on an error to score the winning run in the ninth inning in a WSC Southern Division game.
Moorpark 10, Santa Barbara 4--Zach Gordon hit a grand slam in a five-run ninth inning to pace the Raiders (25-18, 14-10) in a WSC Northern Division game at Santa Barbara.
Gordon hit a home run earlier in the game, giving him 18.
Jeremy Holiday pitched a nine-hitter.
Ventura 6, Hancock 4--Aaron Dixon hit a two-run home run for Ventura (24-16, 14-10) in a WSC Northern Division game at Hancock (28-12, 18-6).
