Westlake Doubles Up on Burroughs

Lindsay Weiss and Lauren Baer won three sets to help Westlake High take seven of nine doubles sets in an 11-7 victory over Burroughs in a Southern Section Division III first-round playoff match Thursday at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
Weiss and Baer recorded the Warriors’ only victory over Burroughs’ No. 1 team of Michelle Hildreth and Melissa Hooven .
Jessica Blau won two of three sets at No. 1 singles for Westlake (15-4).
Dragana Ognenovska won three sets at No. 1 singles and No. 2 Shaina Zaidi won two of three sets for Burroughs (13-2).
In other first-round matches:
Harvard-Westlake 18, Atascadero 0--Stephanie Berg, Jessica Leck and Alexandra Maclennan combined to give up only two games in nine sets for the Wolverines in a Division III victory at Studio City Golf and Tennis.
Berg defeated Briana Smalling, Tess Conner and Audrey Chainey without surrendering a game, and the Wolverines (16-2) won all nine doubles sets.
Agoura 15, Charter Oak 3--Brooke Borisoff (36-0) beat three opponents by 6-0 scores at No. 1 singles for the Chargers (11-9) in a Division III first-round victory at Agoura.
Camarillo 10, Valencia 8--Lauren Gaona swept three sets to help the Scorpions (14-6) beat Valencia (11-9) in a Division I match at Camarillo.
Gaona, Pacific View League champion, beat Julia Peek, 6-2, Ashley Herrera, 6-1, and Neeta Joseph, 6-0.
Buena 16, Arroyo 2--Yasmin Fisher won three sets and the Bulldogs (15-5) swept in singles in a Division II match at Arroyo.
Quartz Hill 15, Santa Fe 3--Lannette Richardson beat three opponents by 6-0 scores at No. 2 singles and No. 1 Patti Young gave up two games in three sets as the Rebels (18-2) earned their 12th consecutive victory in a Division II match at Quartz Hill.
Quartz Hill’s No. 1 doubles team of Nisha Shah and Shannon Murray won their sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.
Burbank 12, Lancaster 6--Karla Garcia and Joanna Han lost five games in a three-set sweep at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs (13-2-1), who earned their ninth consecutive victory in a Division II match at Burbank.
Sonya Reynolds swept three sets at No. 1 singles for Lancaster.
Calabasas 14, South Hills 4--No. 2 doubles team Andrea Leewong and Jackie Yano and No. 3 Vanessa Everly and Brittany Bierman each won three sets as the Coyotes (17-3) won eight of nine doubles sets in a Division IV match at Calabasas.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Crescenta Valley 17, San Marino 4--Robert Curreri scored four of his six goals in the first half and the Falcons won a Southern Section Division III first-round playoff match at Pasadena City College.
Jeff Little scored four goals while Carlos Pelayo added three for Crescenta Valley (23-2).
Mike Hoy had 12 saves for Crescenta Valley.
La Canada 13, California 8--Ben Jorgensen scored five goals and the Spartans won in the first round of the Division III playoffs at La Canada. Lloyd Masson had 11 saves La Canada (23-3).
