Canoga Park Spoils Hicks’ Effort, Shares League Title

Matthew Hicks had 257 yards and one touchdown in 36 carries for North Hollywood High, but the Huskies lost to host Canoga Park, 31-12, in a key Sunset Six League game Friday night.
Canoga Park (6-4, 4-1 in league play) and North Hollywood (5-5, 4-1) finished tied for first place. Poly (5-4, 3-1) is a half-game behind after its game with Grant on Friday was canceled.
Marques Giles, a reserve running back, sparked the Hunters with 123 yards in 11 carries, including a dazzling 70-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
Canoga Park’s Mike Spangle, who has struggled much of the season, completed eight of 13 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns, both to Myles Walton.
The Hunters held North Hollywood to 19 yards passing, picked off three passes and had four sacks.
North Hollywood took a 6-3 lead midway through the second quarter on a 19-yard pass from Billydee Payne to Rasheed Hawkins.
Michael Burnes had 92 yards in 19 carries and scored Canoga Park’s first touchdown on an 18-yard run just before halftime.
